The functionalities on Athena IV is enhanced by the expansion sockets available on-board. There are two I/O expansion sockets & one CoMEx socket on Athena IV.
The two I/O expansions sockets present on Athena IV are:
PC/104
M.2 SATA
Apart from I/O expansion, Athena IV also hosts a CoM Express AB connector. This connector is used to connect the Type 10 CoMEx Mini CPU module.
The pinout details of these sockets are briefed below.
The ISA interface on Athena IV is accessed on PC/104 connectors. PC/104 connectors are a combination of two connectors; 2x32 connector & 2x20 connector. The 2x32 connector hosts the 8-bit ISA I/O cards. For added 16-bit ISA I/O support, the 2x20 connector is used. Athena IV supports interrupts, 8-bit & 16-bit transactions on the ISA bus.
The PC/104 connectors are press-fit stack through connectors. The ISA I/O cards can be either mounted on the top or the bottom. However, the ISA I/O are recommended to be mounted on the bottom side. This is to avoid blocking airflow over the top-side heat sink on Athena IV.
The 64-pin connector incorporates the 8-bit bus connector signals, and the 40-pin header incorporates the 36-pin 16-bit bus connector signals.
The resources available for external ISA cards are provided below:

Available ISA IRQs: 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15

Athena IV provides an M-Keyed 2230 size socket for storage applications. Pinouts are as shown below:
